How I Work

How I Work

I work with both organisations as an executive coach and with individuals who want to do something more private. These can be based in the UK where I am, but I also often work with people who live in other countries and want to work with an English-speaking coach.

Usually I suggest an initial conversation so we can decide if we can work together. Then I prefer to commit to between 4 and 6 sessions of 1 – 11/2 hour conversations. These can be in-person, via Skype or even by phone depending on the best logistics for the situation.

About Me

About Me

My background is working as a chartered psychologist with a number of different organisations to help people develop. At the heart of what I do is working with individuals who want to make changes in their lives. This can be from changing their whole life to making small changes in how they behave – both take courage and that’s where I work.

I’ve made my own changes – becoming self-employed; a parent; an ex-pat; a repatriated ex-pat; working in different countries and industries. Each one of those changes has surprised me in what it has required of me. I still work with organisations as a consultant which allows me not to lose sight of the world of organisations.

My coaching involves the things you would normally expect such as helping people clarify their goals and working towards them. The process of getting there, however, can be flexible, sometimes circuitous and often a process of experimentation. If you are looking for a coach who can prescribe the journey they will take you on in advance I’m not for you. I’m more likely to help you clarify a direction and then help you re-clarify it as you get to know yourself better.

When I coach I ask people to experiment, that is go and try something different just to see if helps you some different results, some of these will work and some won’t, but each step allows us to learn. It sounds simple but can still be surprisingly hard to implement. That’s why I’m always interested in helping people find courage and build their own confidence to make a change.

Coaching clients have said I’m insightful, supportive, challenge, fun and can be blunt at times.

What people say about me

The role of work in your life is so important. Of course it generates in income, but I want it to be so much more; I want to do something I believe in, that gives me a sense of achievement, that is challenging and fun, and contributes to something bigger. For me I found that job ten years ago. But as time went on, I got so entangled in sooo many different things, and all important on one level for different stakeholders, that I forgot about what was important in a job for me.

Linda helped me to untangle it. We went right back to the basics: what do I want from a job, why, how, what gives me energy…. The end result was quite unexpected… For me at least! And I made some life and career changing decision that worked out splendidly! I know I did it all, but Linda supported and guided me through it.

Take it on! Will be a great step into something valuable and exciting!

In 2012 our company – which is the largest Management Consulting firm in Denmark – decided to take some of our own medicine. So all partners were asked to take part in a Leadership Development Program. The most important part of this program was to enter into a series of individual coaching sessions with outside consultants – or Business Therapists as they were called.

Along with six Danish coaches, Linda was chosen as an interesting no. 7. I had the privilege of being one of the partners, who could draw on Linda´s competences through a period of approximately 8 Months, where we had five or six sessions – each lasting 1,5 hours with a detailed memo being written by Linda after each session. The role of the memo was to help me focus on the topics, I should think about – and act upon.
I will highlight the following competences, that I experienced Linda has a great amount of:

  • Empathy
Linda listens carefully and from time to time adds up her impression of the other persons situation, as she understands it. Always to the point.
  • Serious and devoted
As a client you really feel, that you are the object for all Linda´s attention, and that she will do all she can to help you.
  • Practical and knowledgeable about business life.
It´s very easy to talk with Linda, because she knows, what professional business is about, and she knows organizational life in these companies very well.

I hereby warmly recommend Linda to any position, where the above mentioned skills are of great importance.

I have had about 6 sessions with Linda and she has been exactly as I anticipated – sensitive/in-tune, intuitive, honest, flexible, responsive, and on the ball with relevant resources, tools and exercises.

I initially asked her for help with which career direction to head in but she quickly picked up that what I was after was beyond a career move and more a whole-sale life-style change – and then factored this into our sessions. Linda worked with me throughout, considering the session design/the questions she asked and exercises she proposed to suit me and my style/approach. Essentially for me, she would challenge me (kindly) at times eg to make a decision about something, and equally would also input eg ‘I don’t think there is a definitive answer and what will work here instead is…’ or ‘I don’t think that will work because ……’.

And I’m pretty much there with it now: I’m about to change where I live, I’m still on track with other life-style changes about more time with friends, sports and so on; PLUS I have a fabulous, insightful, genuine list of qualities and skills/talents that I’ve built up over the years and on this basis identified various career directions (all of which feel right which is important to me). I have a budget so I know the various roles’ remuneration will work with the life style I’m working towards; and I’m now about to draft CVs for the different types of work about 2-3 months before I make the move to live in the countryside. I’ve another, possibly final session, in September to make sure I’ve moved this forward.

Skype sessions have worked a treat, and we did manage to have one face to face session also which was good.

Linda has been brilliant.

Linda was really able to embrace her role as a coach to help me really understand what I was looking for in a future career.

Linda had a tremendous knowledge of behavioural patterns and was able to explain them in a way that even an engineer could understand. She created an environment where I could explore my leadership skills and my own personal limiting behavior – in a ‘safe’ environment. I grew enormously as a result of our time together.
